RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium's New Star Show Explores Disaster on a Cosmic Scale
ROCHESTER, NY— This fall as the Rochester Museum & Science Center brings the legendary ship Titanic's powerful story of maritime disaster to Rochester in Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium is exploring catastrophe on a cosmic level with the new star show Cosmic Disasters, opening on Saturday, October 10 at 1pm.
As the show begins, you'll settle back in the planetarium's comfortable seats and relax as the giant star projector recreates a perfect night sky. The show presenter conducts a tour of the current constellations and planets, and then asks the question: "What could go wrong?"
Asteroid impacts, planetary alignments, prowling black holes, 2012 doomsday predictions, exploding stars, gamma-ray bursts — which threats are real, and which are totally bogus? Get a scientific perspective on what's really worth worrying about in this intriguing show.
"Cosmic Disasters" lasts about an hour and is recommended for ages 6 to adult. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and college students, $8 for ages 3–18, and free for RMSC members. Beginning October 7, the show will be presented at 1pm on Saturdays through January 9, 2010.
Star shows at RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium are sponsored by CooperVision.
