New "Nightfall Music" Show at RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium Promises Tranquil Escape
ROCHESTER, NY— The Rochester Museum & Science Center Strasenburgh Planetarium presents an hour of tranquility with a new experimental program "Nightfall Music," beginning at 8pm on just two Saturday nights this fall: October 17 and November 14. Tickets are $7; $5 for RMSC members. Doors will open at 7pm so that guests may enjoy assorted pastries, cheeses, fruit, wine, specialty beers and coffees available for purchase before and after the show. (Sorry, no food or drink allowed inside the Star Theater.) Mood-setting acoustic guitar and vocal duo Jeff Lewis and Jim Graves will entertain in the lobby before the show.
As the show begins, the Star Theater fills with twilight, and thousands of stars drift above as you enjoy a seamless mix of calming music by Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and other artists with an insight into serenity.
"In some of our other shows, there are brief interludes of wordless quiet and contemplation, and we've noticed that our audiences, especially adults, really appreciate them," says Planetarium Director Steve Fentress. "In 'Nightfall Music' we'll try expanding that calm state to an entire hour, taking advantage of the planetarium's unique environment."
Not a laser show, not an astronomy program, this unusual experience offers an oasis of minimalist simplicity in a chaotic world. The show lasts about an hour. Children under 5 are not admitted.
