RMSC Science Saturday Promotes "Safety on the Sea"
Rochester, NY —Visit with members of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-2 and learn about "Safety on the Sea" at the Rochester Museum & Science Center's Science Saturday program on November 28 from 11am to 2pm. Find out how you and your family can avoid "disaster" on your recreational boat or Jet Ski, and how to be prepared if trouble occurs. See and learn about emergency equipment and life jackets.
Since its creation by Congress in 1939, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has served as the civilian, non-military component of the Coast Guard. Today, the volunteer Auxiliary numbers 36,000 men and women in more than 2,000 cities and towns across the nation. Auxiliarists assist boaters in distress, conduct courtesy safety examinations of recreational vessels, teach boating and water safety courses, and save nearly 500 lives each year.
Sponsored by Time Warner Cable, RMSC's Science Saturdays are designed especially for middle school, junior and senior high school students to experience science in a fun, informal setting. Programs are free with museum admission: adults $10, seniors and college students $9, ages 3–18 $8, children under 3 and RMSC members free. Note—Museum admission with Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is $17 for adults, $15 for seniors/college students, $14 for ages 3–18, and $5 for RMSC members.
Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) receives major funding from Monroe County. RMSC includes a planetarium, nature center and science/regional history museum. The mission of the RMSC is to stimulate broad community interest and understanding of science and technology, and their impact—past, present, future—on our lives.
