Free Telescope Viewing

From dusk until about 10:00pm (weather permitting). Climb 60 steps at the back of the planetarium to view the heavens through a 12.5-inch diameter reflecting telescope. Before coming: please phone the planetarium box office after 7:30pm to confirm the telescope is open: (585)697-1945.

Holiday Bazaar Arts & Crafts Sale

9:30am–5pm. More than 175 exhibitors of original art and unique crafts fill the RMSC galleries and Eisenhart Auditorium. Admission: $4. Two-day pass $7. Children 12 and under free.

Strasenburgh Planetarium Shows

My Planets at 10am. Holiday Songs and Skies at 11:30am. Cosmic Disasters at 1pm. Wild Ocean plus The Song of Africa at 2:30, 4 & 8pm. '60s Laser at 9:30pm.
10am— My Planets (Star Show). Young children meet constellation friends and learn about day and night and the shapes of the moon in this gentle introduction to the fun of sky watching. Length: 35 min. For children ages 3 to 5 and the adults with them. Admission: $7; free for RMSC members.
11:30am— Holiday Songs and Skies with Mr. Jack Frost (Laser Show). Mr. Frost delights families with colorful lasers, holiday songs, winter stargazing tips, and corny jokes. Unique family entertainment—a holiday must-see! Length: 50 min. For all ages. Admission: $10 adults, $9 seniors and college students, $8 ages 3–18, $1 discount for RMSC members.
1pm—Cosmic Disasters (Star Show). Asteroid impacts, planetarium alignments, prowling black holes, events in 2012, exploding stars, gamma-ray bursts—get a scientific perspective on what's worth worrying about. Length: 60 min. For ages 6 to adult. Admission: $10 adults, $9 seniors, $8 ages 3–18, free for RMSC members.
2:30, 4 & 8pm—"Wild Ocean" (giant-screen film) plus "The Song of Africa" (CineMuse hi-def feature). Witness the unbelievable feeding frenzy that takes place each year as billions of sardines migrate up the east coast of southern Africa (Wild Ocean). Then experience a visual and musical celebration of the timeless rhythms of life on the African savannah (The Song of Africa). Length: 60 min. For all ages. Admission: $10 adults, $9 seniors, $8 ages 3–18, free for RMSC members.
9:30pm— '60s Laser (Rock Laser Show). Intensely colored beams from argon and krypton lasers fill the planetarium dome with dazzling color patterns that spontaneously dance to the music. Experience the music of such rock icons as The Doors, Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and more. Length: 50 min. Children under age five are not admitted. Admission: adults $10; seniors, college students, students ages 5–18, and RMSC members $9.
