February Break Curiosity Camps

Big Screen Science
Monday, Feb. 19–Friday, Feb. 23

Discover the science behind your favorite movies in our biggest blockbuster camp week yet. Spend each day delving in to a different movie or film franchise through hands-on activities, science experiments, and museum exploration. Each day is highlighted by a special RMSC presentation and will feature portions of the theme movie during lunch and arrival/dismissal. 

Choose to spend the week or just a day or two with us! Camp programs are for ages 6 to 11 and include instructor led hands-on activities and experiments in classrooms and exploration time in the museum’s galleriesCampers will be grouped by age with activities tailored to fit their age level.

 

Important Information

  • Registration is required prior to the start of camp.
  • Check-In takes place in the Museum lobby.
  • Campers must bring their own lunch.
  • Please see our Break Week Policies & Procedures for all the details.
  • Extended care is available.

Monday, Feb. 19: World of Wizardry

Welcome to the world of wizardry at the RMSC's school of magic. Once you’ve signed in at Platform 9¾ and been sorted into your house-camp, you’ll be ready to explore the science of wizardry. Make your own bouncy golden snitch, discover some fantastic beasts, and use science to cast magical spells. Be amazed as the RMSC Players bring magic to life in a special Live Science Show.

Tuesday, Feb. 20: Ice Age Adventures

Travel back in time to the Ice Age and join our favorite animated characters on a science expedition. Stay cool as you discover Ice Age animals, experiment with melting ice, learn about continental drift, and find out if an eccentric sloth really could raise baby dinosaurs (SPOILER: he can’t!). Explore the Expedition Earth Gallery and learn about our changing climate in a Science on a Sphere presentation.

Wednesday, Feb. 21: Animal-topia

Welcome to a mammal metropolis—where animals from all environments live and work side by side. Look for animal clues and help Officer Hopps crack the case. Learn about animal habitats by exploring the neighborhoods of Tundratown, Sahara Square, The Rainforest District and even Little Rodentia. Meet all the real life animals that will be here for Animal Week at RMSC, including a private animal show from the Wildlife Rock Stars. Finally, help the animals that you’ve just met create their own Zootopia-like society.

Thursday, Feb. 22: May the Force be with You

Use the epic Star Wars movie franchise as a guide to discover physics. Make your own lightsaber; build a droid, and rescue a frozen Han Solo. Explore a galaxy not-so-far, far away by taking in a star show at the Strasenburgh Planetarium. This camp will be the best Jedi training anywhere outside of the Dagobah System.

Friday, Feb. 23: Beyond the Reef

Set sail on an epic adventure as we go beyond the reef and journey across the ocean towards the line where the sky meets the sea. Discover the heart of Te Fiti as you learn about sea currents, coral reefs, sea creatures that glow, and wayfinding with the stars. Build your own boat and see how far it will go with the wind in its sails. Dive deeper with the giant screen film Dolphins at the Strasenburgh Planetarium.

Extended care options are available Monday through Friday. 

Before Care Session: 7:45 to 9 a.m

After Care Session: 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Cost per Session: $5/day or $20/week
