History Channel “Forged in Fire” Judge and Martial Artist to Perform at RMSC

ROCHESTER, NY—The Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) will be “on fire” the first Saturday in January with master weapon combat specialist and History Channel “Forged in Fire” judge Doug Marcaida. At a special new one-day program, Into the Flame, guests will experience a martial arts show, a special meet-and-greet with Marcaida as well as fire-related demonstrations with Rochester Arc & Flame. The program takes place on Saturday, January 7 from 11am to 2pm.

Doug Marcaida, a Rochester, NY native, is a weapon combat specialist who also designs some of the deadliest blades. A highly skilled martial artist, Doug has studied fighting styles and techniques around the world. At this unique event, guests have the opportunity to learn from one of the most skilled experts in the evolution of weapons of war.

Guests looking to expand their knowledge on forging and fire are encouraged to visit the RMSC Elements of the Extreme exhibition, particularly the area highlighting fire. Each guest will also receive a free kid’s firefighter helmet (while supplies last). The full day’s schedule is included below:

  • 11am –12pm – Opportunity to meet Doug Marcaida in Elements of the Extreme and a martial arts demonstration
  • 12–1pm – Rochester Arc & Flame demonstration on the third floor outside of the Riedman Gallery
  • 1–2pm – Marcaida presentation on his background and “Forged in Fire” in Bausch Auditorium on the first floor
  • 2pm – Q & A session with Marcaida

The Into the Flame program is free with regular museum admission: $14 adults, $13 seniors and college students with ID, $12 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members. For group reservations and rates, call 585.697.1942.
