Our café is currently closed for renovations. You'll be in for a treat when it reopens in July as the Café at RMSC by local partner Creative Caterers.

Strasenburgh Planetarium Celebrating 50 Years

Strasenburgh Planetarium Celebrating 50 Years

Since RMSC’s Strasenburgh Planetarium first opened its doors in 1968, generations of Rochesterians have explored the wonders of the universe under its dome—and exciting changes are on the horizon as we look forward to the next 50 years!

In September, the Planetarium will close for upgrades to the Star Theater, including an open floor plan with movable chairs and a new full-dome projection system that will allow us to create shows and experiences we haven’t imagined yet. Before that, spend the summer enjoying iconic shows one last time. The Strasenburgh Planetarium is one of the last theaters still using 35mm slides to create its star and laser shows. Our new projection system will make these slides obsolete, making this summer your last chance to see favorites such as The Sky Tonight and Led Zeppelin Laser—not to mention select shows from the past—as they were originally created.

As we celebrate the Planetarium’s golden anniversary, we invite you share your memories, stories, and photos with us by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
