Hours, Admission and Directions

Guest Health and Safety

The health and wellness of our visitors, members, staff, and volunteers, are our top priority and we are committed to taking all necessary steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result, we are taking a proactive measure and will close the RMSC's Rochester campus to the public until further notice.

This includes all programs, events, and shows at the Science Museum and Strasenburgh Planetarium as well as the RMSC Preschool. At this time the Cumming Nature Center, located in Naples, NY, will remain open. We will continue to monitor the situation and rely on guidance from CDC, New York State Department of Health, and Monroe County Health Department to make decisions about reopening or other operational adjustments.

Additional Information

Why is Rochester Museum & Science Center closing?

The RMSC, along with the other leading cultural institutions in Rochester, decided to take a proactive step to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

When will RMSC reopen?

We plan to reopen on Saturday, March 28 however, we will continue to monitor the situation and rely on guidance from the CDC, New York State Department of Health, and the Monroe County Health Department as we make decisions about reopening or other operational adjustments.

Has there been a case of COVID-19 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center?

There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center including guests, employees, and vendors.

What can I do to help prevent the spread of disease including the common cold, flu and COVID-19?

Our recommendations below are based on direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer composed of at least 60% alcohol. Hand-sanitizer is available to guests of the RMSC at all locations.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid shaking hands, if possible. Waving is the new handshake.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick. We’ll be here when you get better!
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Where can I find more information?

  • The World Health Organization
  • US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

What if I purchased a ticket for a canceled, postponed, or future event?
The current direction from the Monroe County Department of Health is to postpone all gatherings with people of 50 or more until further notice. As a result, we are reviewing all upcoming events and Planetarium shows and limiting ticket sales or postponing events.

As we determine that events must be postponed, our Membership and Visitor Services team will be reaching out to ticket holders and program participants to notify them of the postponement. If an event is canceled and cannot be postponed, everyone who has purchased a ticket will have the opportunity to turn their purchase into a donation or receive a refund.
