Winter Info & Rentals

Winter is a beautiful time of year at Cumming Nature Center. Enjoy 15 miles of groomed ski trails and a 3-mile loop for snowshoeing. Hiking trails are available if there's not enough snow to ski!

Please note that skiing and snowshoeing is permitted on the trails only. Trails are not for sport competition and are patrolled by the Genesee Valley Nordic Ski Patrol. For safety, visitors must also stay off frozen ponds. 

 

Rentals

For your convenience we rent ski equipment and snowshoes at the Visitor Center:

  • Ski package (skis, poles and shoes): $15
  • Snowshoes: $5

Admission

  • $5/person (admission helps cover trail maintenance)

Get Gliding! Group Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing

This is a quick introductory lesson to the elements of nordic skiing. This 30-minute group lesson meets in the side yard and will cover basic how-tos, such as: weight transfer, push-off, body position, poling, diagonal stride, snowplow stop, side step, and getting up after you fall down.

Lessons are 30-minutes each and by appointment only. Typical timing is between 9am and 3pm.

Cost: $15 per person, $25 with ski rental

Hit-the-Trail! Group Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing & Terrain Skills

This hour-long lesson includes the skills covered in Get Gliding! with additional support on managing speed, double poling, and support on the trail from bottom of the pines (Beaver Trail) to the turn around back to the nature center, where skiers can continue on their way!

Lessons are one hour each and by appointment only. Typical timing is between 9am and 3pm. Preferred times are 11am or 2pm.

Cost: $25 per person, $35 with ski rental

Backcountry Ski Tour!

This full-day session includes a skills-review lesson in the yard, naturalist-led guided ski tour, campfire, hot drinks, and lunch. Tour is held 10am-2:30pm.

Reservation only, tour must be scheduled at least one week in advance. Advanced payment required.

Cost: $50 per person
