Virtual Experience OR Live Science at the RMSC

Driving a car, riding a bike, heating your house, and even sitting still, we use energy. Light, electricity, heat, even sound are all energies. The question is: “What is energy?” Demonstrators guide students in exploring these different forms of energy, how they connect, and how they are used.

For digital programs, our educators will work with your classroom to determine which platform works best to facilitate this experience.

Connects with-
New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) & Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):

This program is supplementary to classroom instruction. Connects with–New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) & Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):

  • 1-PS4-1. Plan and conduct investigations to provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can make materials vibrate.
  • 4-PS3-2. Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.
  • 4-PS3-2. Make observations to provide evidence that energy is conserved as it is transferred and/or converted from one form to another.
  • MS-PS3-4. Plan and conduct an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the temperature of the sample of matter.
  • MS-PS3-6. Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred by electric currents.

How Much Does It Cost?

  • In-person: $10/student to visit, plus $6/student for hands-on program.

    All teachers and school personnel are free.

    All non-school adult chaperones are $10/person at each location. We recommend a ratio of 1 adult per 5 students. RMSC adult members are free.

    EBT card holders qualify for the Museums for All discount for Museum & Science Center field trips. $5/adult card holder

    Virtual: $150 for 1-30 people per session
  • Minimum Student Charge: 15
