After Dark: Mad Science
The RMSC has gone MAD with science! Join us for the Halloween event of the season.
Grab your friends, pull out your best costume, and get ready for a night of maddening science demos, spooky tunes with Rochester Silent Disco, and deviously delicious treats from food trucks.

- Participate in the acclaimed cursed costume contest.
- Vote in our Scariest Things Going On in Science Poll.
- Explosive finale at the end of the night.
- Watch terrifying Tesla coils bring singing lightning to life.
- Discover weird and abnormal medical equipment from our collections.
- Rochester Silent Disco: Grab a pair of glowing headphones and pick your channel — the lab’s gone quiet, but the dance floor hasn’t.
- IBERO Photo Booth: Say cheese for science! Strike a pose and take home proof you survived Mad Science night.
- Melanie’s Muses: Memorialize the night with a photo from Melanie’s Muses under the big top with mad science props!
- Maker Faire Rochester: Play with optics as you stretch your face, thanks to Maker Faire Rochester’s Big Face Portraits.
- Rochester Makerspace: Tinker like a true mad scientist at the Rochester Makerspace table. Hands-on gadgets, gizmos, and DIY experiments are encouraged.
- Astronomy on Tap: Learn about astronomy from up-and-coming astronomers. Astronomy on Tap hosts informal presentations by professional astronomers & space experts held in bars around the world.
- Rochester Public Library: Check out spooky science reads and hands-on activities with the Rochester Public Library, because every mad scientist needs a good book.
- ASRAS: Peer through a telescope with the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Science. No lab coat required, just curiosity about the night sky.
- Great Lakes Gaming: Level up your Halloween with video games for every mad scientist’s inner strategist.
- Fiendweavers: Meet the makers behind the monsters! Fiendweavers brings creepy, cool, whimsical, and fun creature creations to life for Mad Science Night.
- Lake Ontario MicroPlastics Center: Real science, real stakes. Learn what they’re is uncovering about our lake and hear why it matters.
