Archaeology is the study of objects people made, used, and left behind.
Discover how archaeology can tell us fascinating information about our shared human history.
Meet members of the Rochester Society of the Archaeological Institute of America for hands-on family activities, including a mini-dig, arts and crafts, and Play-Doh, and have a chance to check out a stone tool-making demonstration, archaeology books, magazines, and real and reproduction artifacts!

Get hands-on with:
- Artifact, Biofact, Fossil: What’s the Difference? Learn the differences between the different types of objects that can be found in excavations with our teaching collecting.
- Make your own Artifact: Create a coin that represents something about you or where you live, think about how this coin would be interpreted by Archaeologists hundreds of years from now.
- Archaeology Coloring/Activity Sheets
- Pictograph Wall Art: Create wall art inspired by modern humans using a cutout of your hand and chalk/paint.
- Puzzling Pots: Put together the pieces of a paper pot to reconstruct the original.
