Do you want to help us gather data and learn more about the diverse ecosystem we inhabit? You can be a citizen scientist!

This summer, we will be offering an array of activities celebrating the abundant biodiversity found here at the Cumming Nature Center. Along the way, we’ll be cataloging as many species as we can, collecting this data in iNaturalist. This type of cataloging project is called a BioBlitz, and it helps us collect useful data about the huge variety of living organisms that live around the nature center.

Join us between July 15th and August 15th and be a part of this fun and important work!

We have a variety of ways to get involved:

  • attend one or more of our “Summer of Biodiversity” Wild Walks,
  • download the iNaturalist app, hike the CNC trails on your own, and record what you see in iNaturalist,
  • collect information while hiking and record it on observation sheets

SUMMER OF bIODIVERSITY SERIES

We have lots of Wild Walks coming up this summer, many of which offer opportunities to engage in citizen science and help with this year’s BioBlitz! To learn more about these guided hikes, click the button below.

inaturalisT PROJECT

Visitors are welcome to contribute to the project anytime they visit the nature center between July 15th and August 15th. Whether on your own or as part of a guided hike, you are welcome to contribute to our iNaturalist project.

For those new to iNaturalist, join us on Sunday, August 2nd for an intro session by volunteer Judy Dobles!

observation sheets

Prefer pencil and paper? You’re in luck! We will have data sheets available at the front desk; you can use these to record your observations. Be sure to return them to the front desk when you’re done. Bring a clipboard!
