Geocaching Day
Enjoy a day of scavenger hunting at the Cumming Nature Center! Geocaches of all levels will be hidden across the nature center landscape—including some new deviously difficult nature-themed caches and some easier finds! Geocaching support will be available from 10am-1pm.
Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity that involves participants using a GPS device to locate hidden containers, called “geocaches.” Most geocaches are waterproof containers with a logbook, which the geocacher signs as proof of the find. Many contain a small trinket/”treasure”. Geocache containers range in size and are often camouflaged to blend in with their surroundings. The thrill of the find is a great source of fun, adventure and exercise!
From 10 am – 11 am, join Edina351 for a lesson on Geocaching 101, open to people of all ages and abilities. This will be a beginner session to help those who are new to geocaching learn how to geocache and will offer a chance for people who haven’t geocached in a while to refresh their memories as to what geocaching is all about!
Edina351 and CNC staff will be available to answer questions between 11am and 1pm.
Feel free to hang out at the nature center after you are cached out. Bring a picnic if you’d like! Cumming Nature Center has numerous picnic tables and an indoor space to eat in inclement weather.
Bring a smartphone or GPS device; we will have limited GPS devices available to borrow.
