RMSC Announces Carey Sisson as New Head of Preschool

ROCHESTER, NY, September 18, 2020 – The Rochester Museum & Science Center Preschool welcomes Carey Sisson as the new Head of Preschool. Sisson is new to the position for the 2020-2021 school year, but she is not an unfamiliar face, having worked at the RMSC Preschool for four years as a classroom teacher.

"The RMSC Preschool builds on a child's natural curiosity and interest in science, technology and the world around them. We consider ourselves partners with our parents, a child's first teacher, to develop a love for inquiry and life-long learning," said Sisson. “RMSC Preschool is recognized as an award-winning program and I am thrilled to continue the excellence and programming that our Preschool is known for.”

Sisson brings nearly 30 years of experience working in youth education throughout the country. In addition to classroom teaching, she spent years creating, developing and delivering professional development programs for teachers and administrators as a part of EdisonLearning. In her role at EdisonLearning, she also created supply chain management systems to ensure that schools received their materials in a timely manner.

The RMSC Preschool provides a unique educational opportunity for children to start their learning journey in a one-of-a-kind environment, according to Allison Shultes, Director of Education at the RMSC. Between Sisson’s extensive experience and passion for education, Shultes added, she was the perfect candidate to head the innovative preschool.

"As the premier museum-based preschool in Rochester, our preschoolers enjoy the traditional benefits of a child-centered and developmentally appropriate program and have access to the amazing exhibits, collections, and other resources at the RMSC,” said Shultes. “Our preschoolers’ curiosity is sparked early and they learn to become explorers, problem-solvers, and creative-makers, and develop the foundation to become life-long learners. We’re excited to welcome Carey to our team--she truly understands the importance of this spark of curiosity, the benefits of being located at the museum and the importance of engaging young learners.”
