Strasenburgh Planetarium Shares Knowledge about Mars Rover Landing

WHAT: Perseverance, a six-wheeled rover the size of a car, arrives at Mars on February 18 to begin a two-year mission searching for signs of past life. Strasenburgh Planetarium Director Steve Fentress is available for general interviews about the landing, available by appointment.

Additionally, the Strasenburgh Planetarium will present a series of special 45-minute live presentations throughout landing week to help visitors learn more about the landing. Visitors who attend the 2:30pm show on Thursday, February 18, will be invited to stay and watch live NASA coverage of the landing, which is expected at about 3:30pm.

During the show, visitors will take a tour of the canyons, craters, and volcanoes of Mars, homing in on Jezero Crater, the chosen landing site. They’ll also admire the technology of the rover, including its sample collector, experimental helicopter, and Rochester-made optics.
