WHAT: The RMSC’s Cumming Nature Center (CNC) reopens for the winter season on December 15, and the organization is marking it’s reopening with a celebration of the Winter Solstice on Sunday, December 19.
During the Winter Solstice Celebration, families can create nature-crafted ornaments, help decorate a tree for wildlife, and take a winter walk or cross country ski if snow is available. Visitors can also enjoy a mindful walk around the solstice spiral and share in a reading of “The Shortest Day” by Wendy Pfeffer before enjoying hot cocoa and popcorn. Activities will be ongoing from 10-3pm.
During the winter months, CNC will be open Wednesdays through Fridays 9am to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm. The Nature Center trails are open for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, weather permitting. Visitors can rent skis and snowshoes to make the most of their winter season explorations.
Particularly during the holiday school break, CNC expects to welcome many families for fun winter-themed activities and outdoor exploration.
