ROCHESTER, NY—Splat, glop, squish – it’s a festival of mess! Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) during spring break week enjoy all the excitement of the super icky at the Mess-tival: Slimy, Silly & Gross! weeklong program. The experience takes place from 11am to 3pm on Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 23 (except Easter Sunday April 16) and features yucky hands-on fun for the whole family with opportunities to create a variety of messes each day.
Experiments with different gooey substances entertain visitors of all ages as they explore the science behind these messes. Visitors make their own green slime, bury their hands in oobleck, dissect an owl pellet, paint with magnet marbles and so much more. Experts will be on hand to explain why these substances are the way they are. Also, the Carlson Inquiry Room, an area of the museum not typically available to the public, will be open and full of hands-on activities as well as a variety of animals including snakes, lizards and frogs.
Each day of the program, presentations by the Wildlife Defenders with their live animal ambassadors will take place at 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Animals include regional and exotic birds, mammals and reptiles.
In addition, special Science Alive activities, which are exciting live experiments with science experts, will take place during the week including Electricity Theater musical lightning shows. Visit www.rmsc.org for details.
The Elements of the Extreme exhibition, which is in its final days at RMSC, closing April 23, is also available for exploration. Discover the extreme forms of earth, fire, air and water in an immersive experience featuring an augmented reality sandbox and a hovercraft.
The Mess-tival: Slimy, Silly & Gross! program is free with regular museum admission: $14 adults, $13 seniors and college students with ID, $12 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members.
