WHAT: Maple Sugaring Weekends are returning to the RMSC Cumming Nature Center during the last two weekends in March. On March 19-20 and March 26-27, staff at the Nature Center will serve up a hearty, locally-sourced pancake breakfast for visitors to enjoy before they hit the Maple Trail to learn about the science and history of maple sugaring. This year marks 44 years of this tradition at the Nature Center.
Guests can sign-up for one of six time slots each day, from 9am-1pm, for their breakfast. The Maple Trail is open each day from 10am-2pm.
This year, the Nature Center is offering two packages for guests who would like to bring Maple Sugaring home with them:
- The Breakfast in a Basket is perfect for enjoying the Nature Center’s pancake breakfast long after maple sugaring season is over. It includes all the fixings for a pancake breakfast, sweet treats, and a special CNC-themed ornament.
- The Make-Your-Own Maple Sugaring Kits have everything one needs to tap a maple tree and enjoy a pancake breakfast afterward. Each kit includes a 5-gallon food grade bucket, with lid, tree tap, and tubing, 5lb bag of buttermilk pancake mix, 1 quart of maple syrup, 4 maple lollipops, and 2 packs of maple sugar candy
Tickets for the pancake breakfast include free family admission to all Nature Center trails. If visitors aren’t interested in breakfast, they can attend the event for the price of regular Nature Center admission.
