ROCHESTER, NY— The Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) welcomes Harold R. Clark, Ph.D. as Senior Director, STEM Learning & Community. Dr. Clark joins RMSC to lead its Education team, including the RMSC Preschool and Curiosity Camps, as well as staff responsible for school programming, educator-focused professional development, adult offerings, and community activities and programs in support of featured exhibits. A member of RMSC’s leadership team, Dr. Clark is looking forward to creating additional connections between RMSC and the wider Rochester community, and forging relationships that will enhance the access of RMSC visitors to current science and engineering and the host of careers associated with them.
Dr. Clark comes to RMSC from the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.,J., where, as Director, STEM Educators and Programs, he oversaw growth of the education team in both expertise and types of programs presented; managed the Travelling Science Program that reached 45,000 students; and developed and implemented new programs on the floors and in the theaters, including the Nikola Tesla Lightning show. He appeared in the 2016 documentary, Tesla, on PBS’s American Experience, and more recently, the Discovery Channel’s Tesla series. He was the Principal Investigator on grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, New Jersey State Department of Education, and other foundations and organizations.
Dr. Clark earned his A.B. (Magna cum Laude) in Engineering and Applied Physics from Harvard College and his Ph.D. in Materials Science from M.I.T. From 1982 to 2001, at AT&T/Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies, he did research and development in optical fiber technology, photonic device packaging, and environmentally sensitive manufacturing processes, eventually moving into manufacturing systems engineering, and supply chain management. The author of a number of papers, he also holds six patents.
A husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Clark enjoys varied pursuits outside of work including gardening, singing in church/community choirs, history of science and technology, genealogy, reweaving the seats of cane and rush chairs, and spending time with family.
