Ripley’s Believe It or Not! to bring Bizarre Buying Bazaar to RMSC Dec. 9–10

ROCHESTER, NY—Have odd items in your attic? Curiosities in your basement? Bring them to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) for a Bizarre Buying Bazaar December 9–10, 2017, in celebration of RMSC’s current exhibition, The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not®!

Ed Meyer, VP of Exhibits and Curatorial Manager for Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, will be at RMSC to make ‘odd’praisals of oddities and artifacts on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10am–3pm and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 11am–2pm. Visitors who bring an item to the Bizarre Buying Bazaar will receive a coupon for $3 off a future visit; visitors who attend to see what odd things others bring in will receive a coupon for $1 off a future visit.

Throughout its history, Ripley’s has given ‘odd’praisals on a variety of objects ranging from family heirlooms to collectables, antiques, and even handcrafted items. If an item is odd enough, Ripley’s may make an offer to buy it on the spot in order to add the item to its collection!

Interested RMSC visitors should consider the following when choosing which treasure to bring:

    • RMSC is not responsible for any items brought in for the Bizarre Buying Bazaar; do not leave valuables in the car and be careful when carrying items through the Museum.
    • Firearms are prohibited.
    • Live animals are prohibited.
    • All items must be for sale.

The Bizarre Buying Bazaar is being held in conjunction with The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!—an extraordinary collection of intriguing objects and astonishing artifacts from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! that allows visitors to explore the real science behind the unbelievable—on display at RMSC through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018.

A joint production between Ripley Entertainment, Inc. and Science North, The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! allows visitors to delve into an astounding world through experiments, challenges, touchable specimens, real artifacts, computer interactives, and multimedia experiences. Visitors can also explore Rochester’s own unbelievable past with items from RMSC’s collections, including the eccentric snakeskin wardrobe of Rattlesnake Pete, the incredible hair products of Martha Matilda Harper (the greatest entrepreneur you’ve never heard of), and examples of turn-of-the-century crafts made out of human hair.

The Bizarre Buying Bazaar and The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! are free with regular museum admission: $14 adults, $13 seniors and college students with ID, $12 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members. For group reservations and rates, call 585.697.1942.
