Resources For Our Families

About Our Curriculum

We are proud to be Rochester's premier museum-based preschool! Over 4,000 Rochester-area children have attended our preschool over the last 40 years, enjoying a child-centered, developmentally appropriate program facilitated by a warm and caring staff in our Eisenhart Auditorium. We work closely with parents to serve the best interest of every child and family.

Our curriculum provides unique educational experiences, which enhance a traditional preschool program. We take advantage of the exhibits, collections, and resources of the entire RMSC. On-site visits to the Rochester Museum, Strasenburgh Planetarium, and Cumming Nature Center in the Bristol Hills are an integral part of the program.

The curriculum stimulates exploration and encourages problem-solving skills, creativity, and social and emotional growth. Our preschoolers are exposed to a variety of experiences that enhance their understanding of the world around them. Their teachers accept them as individuals and encourage each child to progress at their own pace, laying the foundation for language and math acquisition and beginning academic skills.

Meet the Director

Carey Sisson, Head of Preschool.

We are excited to announce Carey Sisson as our new Head of Preschool! Carey has been working at the RMSC for four years as a classroom teacher in the Preschool. Carey has dedicated her career of almost 30 years to the education of youth throughout our country. In addition to classroom teaching, Carey has spent years creating, developing, and delivering professional development for teachers and administrators as a part of EdisonLearning. She has also created supply chain management systems to ensure that schools received their materials in a timely manner. Carey is excited to continue the legacy of our award-winning Preschool and partner with teachers and parents to deliver a safe, fun, and engaging school experience for our youngest learners.

Our Former Director

Former RMSC Preschool Director Janet Finch-Levy always ensured that the preschool was a "safe and fun place to be for teachers and families.” As she retires and moves forward on her life journies, we wish her well and celebrate the work she has done to enhance the RMSC Preschool. Read more about Janet in this Democrat and Chronicle spotlight.

What our parents are saying:

We love the exposure to STEM and the creative way the curriculum is designed. Our son comes home every day excited to show and tell us what he has learned, the new friends he’s made and why he’s looking forward to go back the next day. - Tomicka Wagstaff
